Bamboo Kitchen is the creation of Norman Ah Num and his family who had always dreamed of being able to serve freshly crafted Chinese food (with a Kiwi take) to the surrounding discerning community.
Norman has been in the takeaway industry all his life having created Diamond Takeaways on the corner of Market and Great South Roads with his late mother and sisters. He operated the business with his mother and family and enjoyed huge success for 40 years which is a testament to his mother's great recipes, the hard work of the family and loyalty of the staff.
Norman decided to embark on expansion plans so the family sold Diamond Takeaways in 2012 and Bamboo Kitchen was born. The first Bamboo Kitchen was in Eden Terrace, a second in St Johns and a third in Greenlane.
After a further 11 years in expansionist mode, and now that the family have all grown up and gone their own ways, Norman has decided to wind back the operation to one shop only.
Bamboo Kitchen is now one shop operating at 112 St Johns Rd where Norman and his long serving loyal staff are still producing the same freshly crafted "Kiwi Chinese Takeaways" as per "mum's" recipes. They also serve fish, chips and burgers too.
So to all customers, new or old, pop in to St Johns and say hi to Norm and his team and try some old-school delicious takeaways together with their famous customer service.
